The Virginia Latino Higher Education Network, (VALHEN), is the only state-wide, non-profit 501(c)3 organization which supports, promotes, and advocates for Latino success and advancement in higher education, to ensure that every Latino in Virginia is college and career ready for the benefit and betterment of the Commonwealth of Virginia. For the third consecutive year, VALHEN is participating in the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC), an annual charity drive, to increase the funds available to its scholarship recipients.
One-hundred percent of all CVC Campaign donations go directly to fund the VALHEN-CVC Scholarship. This past year’s VALHEN-CVC Scholarship winner, Griselda Lopez, received a $1,000 award to attend Northern Virginia Community College. Liberty Tax Service, Una Familia Sin Fronteras® Foundation, proud supporter of VALHEN, contributed three $500 scholarship awards at VALHEN’s annual Encuentro Conference.
“We are so grateful for the tremendous support that Liberty Tax Service, Una Familia Sin Fronteras Foundation has shown us these past three years. This foundation is geared towards empowering the Hispanic community and by supporting VALHEN they are helping shape these young individuals into the leaders of tomorrow,” says Dr. Maricel Quintana-Baker, Past-President and Founder of VALHEN.
Martee Saldaña Pierson, Director of Diversity Programs at Liberty Tax Service and Executive Director of Liberty’s Una Familia Sin Fronteras Foundation, added, “Working with VALHEN is truly a remarkable experience. It is an indescribable feeling seeing the work you contribute and believe in, blossom to life with such deserving students.”
With the holiday season rapidly approaching, now is the perfect time to give. Donations can only be made by Virginia state employees, through December 21st at https://edirect.virginia.gov/EDL/Start.aspx? by entering the CVC code #3702. The Virginia Latino Higher Education Network and its scholarship recipients thank you and wish you a happy holiday season.

About the Virginia Latino Higher Education network (VALHEN)
VALHEN’s journey is a classic study of collaboration, determination, and vision, made possible by the work of its volunteer members and the generous collaborative partnerships and sponsorships from our corporate citizens, other community organizations and our higher education institutions. VALHEN has been able to attract high ranking members of academia, business, and the community-at-large who, as volunteers, are driven by their passionate belief that our Latino children and communities must have access to programs and efforts which help them access post-secondary education in order to become full and contributing members of our Commonwealth. VALHEN addresses a need for Virginians to have a strong voice and a medium through which they can advocate for the success of the Latino community—success which is generated by access to higher education. VALHEN and its members are changing the face of the Commonwealth by ensuring that Latinos are visible, are supported, and are on their way to higher education.
